2nd Amendment and what it really means!!
The 2nd Amendment and what it really means!!
The 2nd Amendment is part of The Bill of Rights which are the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution.
The Second Amendment, ratified in 1791, was proposed by James Madison to allow the creation of civilian forces that can counteract a tyrannical federal government.
The 2nd amendment reads “ A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Notice the word arms is used not guns. What does that mean?
Madison, the eventual author of the Second Amendment, wrote in Federalist 46 of the "last successful resistance of this country against the British arms." Here the term "arms" refers generally to the British invasion and all its weaponry, including cavalry, artillery, and naval power.
Back in 1791, the advanced war technology of that time were cannons and muskets. Back in 1791, a lot of people hunted for their meat.
How does that relate to today? That is a question that is constantly being asked and refined. The 2nd Amendment is there to protect us against a tyrannical government and thus legal citizens need access to military arms to keep a tyrannical government from occurring and to preserve our republic.
Please note the word legal citizens. Does this amendment apply to all the people or just US citizens? The actual amendment uses the word people. This question is being scrutinized, there is a great read on this point, please see the link below if you want to read up on the issue if this amendment only applies to Citizens or to all.

As time went on there have been cases that have tried to further define or redefine this amendment. This amendment was made to protect us from a tyrannical government to preserve our republic and our freedoms.
This amendment could have a further expansion in it's meaning. Is an insurrection illegal?
The government in power will always say yes, but if the government meets the definition of being tyrannical then this amendment could be construed that it is the responsibility of the people to dispose of a tyrannical government and this amendment allows this to happen thru ownership of arms.
It is truly sad to see the mass shootings, but people with bad intent will always find a way to do harm. Restrictions only hurt law abiding citizens. Those who wish to do harm do not respect the law. We cannot get caught up in the emotion of these horrible acts and we must remember the true intent of the 2nd amendment is to give us the ability to defend ourselves against and to dispose of a tyrannical government.
